There is no time like the present to start improving your health and if you are interested in putting some healthy habits into practice, the summer, which is springing with new life, is a great time to get started.
Here are some tips to help you get started right away and make this summer a healthy time for you and your family!
Healthy Habits To Start This Summer
1. Make Sure You Get Enough Sleep
Take a good look at your bedroom to make sure that it is conducive to getting a good night’s sleep. If the temperature is too hot or too cold, the sheets are not comfortable or there is too much light, you won’t be able to get the rest you need. Lack of sleep not only makes you feel grumpy the next day, but it can be responsible for forgetfulness, poor judgment and lead to more sick days and accidents.
2. Start Your Day With A Glass Of Water
During the summer, you’ll want to make sure that you stay well hydrated. Start your day off right by drinking a glass of water instead of immediately heading for the coffee pot. If you don’t like plain water, give it a boost of flavor by adding a slice of lemon or infuse it the night before with pieces of fresh strawberries. You’ll feel more energized after sleeping through the night and there is no caffeine required.
3. Sample More Fruits And Vegetables As Part Of Your Eating Plan
This time of year is a wonderful time to enjoy a variety of garden goodies, so make a point of filling your plate with more fruits and vegetables. Experiment with simple cooking methods or eat them raw so that you get the maximum benefit from these foods that are jam-packed with vitamins and minerals for your enjoyment. Eating a variety of healthy fruits and veggies, while eating less processed and salty foods, will also make you feel less bloated and just better all around.
4. Make Regular Activity Part Of Your Routine
Longer and warmer days make it easier to get out and stay active. There are many activities you can enjoy with your entire family or on an adults-only basis. If you aren’t used to exercising, start by going for a walk around your neighborhood. Playing a game of catch or taking your children to the park or going on a hike is another good choice. Water sports like swimming, canoeing or kayaking are good choices, too, and you can get together with a group of adults who enjoy this form of exercise to make new friends.
5. Make Sure You Take Your Prescriptions As Directed
Many people do not take their prescribed medicines as directed by their doctor. They may not be taking them correctly because of issues with the way it tastes or the form it is in (maybe the medication is difficult to swallow or they have a concern about choking because it’s in tablet form).
Our caring and knowledgeable compounding pharmacists can help by working with you and your doctor to prepare a custom formulation that is easier to ingest, such as a suspension liquid or prepping the dose in a gummie or topical gel. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help!
